In around 4 months, the American Mathematics Competition known as the AMCs will take place. There are a total of 4 AMC exams, namely AMC 10A, AMC 10B, AMC 12A, and AMC 12B. The AMC 10s are for anyone in tenth grade or below while the AMC 12 is for anyone in grade twelve or below. Both exams are 25 multiple choice questions with 75 minutes consisting of easy and hard math problems.
Answering a question correctly rewards you with 6 points, leaving it blank rewards you with 1.5 points, and getting the question wrong gives you 0 points. The maximum score possible on the AMC 10 or 12 is 150 and around the top 5% of AMC 10 or AMC 12 scorers get invited to take the American Invitational Mathematics Competition (AIME). There are also other awards for scoring high on the AMC 10 and 12 such as honor roll and distinguished honor roll. More information about the awards and the AMCs can be found on the MAA website.
With all this being said, go contact your school's counselor to see if your school offers the AMC 10 or AMC 12 and if not, then go online and search for schools that do offer. Sign up before it's too late!
