The United States of America Junior Mathematics Olympiad (USAJMO) and the United States of America Mathematics Olympiad (USAMO) are 6-question, 9-hour, two day exams that test a student's skill at writing proofs and solutions. Additionally, the USAJMO and USAMO are prestigious competitions that only the top 500 students (250 for each) in the nation can compete.
Every question on the USAMO and JMO are graded on a scale from 0-7 depending on how complete the solution/proof is.
There are four prizes that can be won at the USAMO or JMO. The gold prize is awarded to approximately the top 6% of scorers on the USAMO and JMO, the silver prize is awarded to the top 12% of scorers, while the bronze prize is awarded to the top 18% of scorers. Furthermore, honorable mention is awarded to those who scored 14 or more points on the USAMO or JMO.
Every year, around 60 of the top scorers from the USAMO and JMO are invited to the Mathematical Olympiad Program (MOP) which takes place during the summer.
